Board meetings for the Utah Afterschool Network are held regularly with existing board members and staff to make decisions and take action on relevant motions.  These are open to interested individuals to attend.

Kelly Colopy

Board Position: Board Chair
Committees: Policy, Finance

Kelly Colopy is the Associate Director for Salt Lake County's Community Services Department and previously served as the Associate Director for the County’s Human Services Department. In these roles, she leads multi-agency efforts and guides agency strategic planning, process and program design, goal setting, and program evaluation efforts for her departments as well as the other 22 agencies that report to the Mayor, and other community organizations. She also leads county-wide culture change and performance measure development efforts. She sits on the Advisory Board for the County's Employee University, working to design training programs that are accessible for all employees. She was actively involved in the design and implementation of the County's afterschool program.

 

Cori Groth

Committees: Nominating Committee Chair, Policy

Cori is the Associate Director with the Utah Educational Policy Center and an Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Educational Leadership and Policy Department at the University of Utah. Her Policy Center work involves the planning and coordinating of policy analyses and program evaluations on educational issues in both preK-12 and higher education; establishing and maintaining relationships with local and state educational leaders in preK-12 and higher education, legislative leadership, and local and state community-based groups who focus on educational issues; organizing policy forums; and seeking, applying for, and managing grants to conduct policy analysis and program evaluations. She also teaches courses in Education Law, Organizational Change, and Program Evaluation for the K-12 M.Ed. Licensure Program.

Rich West

Rich West is the Cheif Executive Officer for the YMCA Utah and is responsible for strategic development and implementation for the organization. Rich’s background has been in youth, health and recreation management where he has thrived in growing and expanding programs. Rich has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Westminster College and a Master’s of Science degree from Chicago State University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of California at San Diego.

Karen Crompton

Karen is the Executive Director for the organization Voices for Utah Children, which she joined in 2001. She had previously worked for Sears, Roebuck & Company for 17 years where she held a number of senior management positions. Karen was also a candidate for Salt Lake County Mayor in 2000. In 2006 Karen received the Florette Angel Award which is given annually by Voices for America's Children to the chief executive officer of a member organization who has "demonstrated exceptional leadership, perceptive organizational vision, innovative advocacy, and effective service on behalf of children and their families." She was honored by the YWCA in 2007 with the Outstanding Achievement Award in Government and Public Service and also received the Community Champions Award for Advocacy from Molina Healthcare in 2008. Karen is a 1971 graduate of the University of Utah.

Kelly Riding

Kelly Riding is the Afterschool Program Manager for Salt Lake County Division of Youth Services, where she has worked for 7.5 years.  She oversees school-based afterschool and summer programming for teens.  Her undergraduate degree is in therapeutic recreation and psychology which combined her love for people and helping them become successful through recreation choices and opportunities. She is currently pursuing a graduate degree in public administration and is the President of the Afterschool Utah Association.  She enjoys hiking, skiing, shopping, reading and traveling.

Jolene Christian

Jolene works for the Department of Workforce Services (DWS), Office of Work and Family Life, as the Teen Afterschool Program Specialist.  She oversees afterschool funding/grants for programs serving youth in Middle, Junior and High School.  She has been with DWS since the summer of 2008.    She began her professional career in 2000 teaching Junior High in Utah, followed by Northern Virginia.  She then worked as a USU Extension Agent in Davis County over the 4-H program, partnering with multiple afterschool programs.  She has a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences Education, and a Master of Science in Human Environments; Education and Extension, both from Utah State University

Barbara Smith

Barbara Smith is the Director of the Utah Family Partnership Network working to address strenghthining families to support student learning, since 2002.  She has also worked in Public Relations for the Utah Council for Crime Prevention, with the Utah State Office of Education for Parent Conferencing and a Trust Land Specialist, and with Davis School District in GIfted Education.  SHe has conducted presentation across the state on a wide variety of topics including Safety, and Substance Abuse, Non-profit Public Relations, Communication,  Leadership, Community Partnerships, Gifted Education, Parent Egagement in Education, Parenting Skills and Literacy.  Barbara is active in the PTA serving at all levels from local PTA President to Region Director. She is also a member of the following boards Governors Literacy Commission, Governor’s Early-Childhood Commission, Utah School Board’s Association Board of Directors, Trust Lands Advisory Committee (TAC), Davis County United Way Leadership Council, Utah Parent Center LINKs Committee and the National Federation of Urban-Suburban School District’s Executive Board (national organization of suburban school districts) Immediate Past-President.

Lisa Wisham

Lisa works for the Utah State Office of Education in the Federal Programs Office. She oversees the 21st Century Community Learning Center federal grants. She has been with the Utah State Office of Education since July, 2009. Prior to that, she worked in a private Residential Treatment Facility for nine years.

Agnes Chiao

Agnes Chiao is the Senior Director for Neighborhood Inititatives and Innovation for United Way of Salt Lake.

Ann Ober

Board Member

Committees: Policy Committee Chair

Ann Ober serves as the Administrative Services Division Director for Salt Lake City, following seven years of service for Mayor Peter Corroon and Salt Lake County. In her current position, Ober works with Salt Lake City’s Youth and Family Services, policy development, the Gallivan Center and other City-wide events activities.  She is also working on numerous policy projects for the city including community gardens, solar energy and emergency services.  Prior to her service with the County, Ober primarily focused on policy as a Member of Congress in Indiana, Peter Visclosky (D-1) as well as for a non-profit, Women’s Action for New Directions.  Ann received her undergraduate degree from Pacific Lutheran University and her Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Utah.
