  • Must be knowledgeable about local, state, and national requirements and standards for afterschool programs serving youth ages 5-12 years
  • Must be able to schedule and conduct observations during normal operating hours of school-age programs

Professionally, Observers must meet one of the three following requirements:

  • A Baccalaureate degree and two years of work experience in a child care setting serving youth from 5 to 12 years of age, including one year working directly with youth as a caregiver, teacher, social worker, or similar role and one year facilitating the professional growth of at least one other adult.
  • An Associate degree and four years of work experience in a child care setting serving youth from 5 to 12 years of age, including two years working directly with youth as a caregiver, teacher, social worker, or similar role and two years facilitating the professional growth of at least one other adult.
  • Six years of work experience in a child care setting serving youth from 5 to 12 years of age, including three years working directly with youth as a caregiver, teacher, social worker, or similar role and three years facilitating the professional growth of at least one other adult.

Any professionals who only partially meet these eligibility requirements may still apply to become an approved, external evaluator. Final determinations of eligibility will be made by UAN.
