Homework Ideas - An outline of ideas to make homework an afterschool program in the schools. (2 pages)

Geography -

Surveys show that too many young Americans can't locate world powers such as Japan and India or find the Pacific Ocean. In response, National Geographic started My Wonderful World, a campaign backed by a coalition of national partners to expand geographic learning in school, at home and in the community.

National Geographic is offering several services, including a free e-newsletter filled with tips and activities, to encourage growth in the geographic knowledge of America's youth.

ART

Art in Afterschool - A speech on the role arts play in afterschool programming. (12 pages)

CLUB IDEAS

K-12 School Enrichment/After School Programs Activity Sheets - This is a comprehensive list of activity ideas complete with supply lists and time requirements. Most of the activities are for Science and Nutrition.

FREE afterschool curriculum -

This curriculum is used to teach children across the U.S. about eating healthy, regular exercise, and eradicating tobacco use. Road of Life: Cancer Prevention for Kids offers a free and easy to use elementary health education curriculum geared towards 3rd-5th graders.

Multicultural Games - This is a packet of about 10 games from different cultures around the world provided by Logan Parks and Rec.

Positive Character Development -

Auto B Good: In every child's imagination, the inanimate come to life. What if it was possible for those creations to become a reality and teach important life lessons? There is such a place, the Little City of Auto, just off of County Road "B" in the State of Good. Explore this resource as a way to help teach valuable positive character attributes to youth.

LIGHTS ON AFTERSCHOOL IDEAS

Host a Child Safety Event - The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has tools and resources for you to add to your Lights On Afterschool Event. Tips for how to get the community involved and free resources are provided to distribute to youth. This can be a great addition to your event, while raising awareness for the importance of afterschool, families can be provided valuable information about ways to help protect their children.

Afterschool Math Ideas - A great website filled with ideas for math activities to implement in an afterschool program.

NEW PROGRAMS

Snack on a Budget - A brochure addressing the challenge of feeding a family on a budget including ideas, resources, suggestions and tips. (2 pages)

Cash Reimbursement for Snack - Step-by-Step guide to inform Extension Educators about After School SNACKS program so you can decide whether or not the program benefits out weigh the costs of seeking this funding.

SEDL National Center for Quality Afterschool - The Virtual Academy for Afterschool offers a series of online interactive courses designed to build the knowledge and skills of afterschool instructors to deliver content-based academic programming. The courses are based on 5 years of research and observations at 100 afterschool sites, with evaluation data suggesting an impact on student learning.

Utah Career Ladder - These programs work to improve the quality of care offered to children in Utah by increasing their caregivers' training and reducing caregiver turnover.

Free Online Training -

The Youth Development Institute is free online professional development training for front line youth service providers.

The curriculum ranges from positive youth development approach to bullying prevention and more. Content is added and updated on a continuous basis, so visit the site for the most current curriculum list! Each course takes about one hour to complete. You can pick and choose which classes you want to take in any order.

Utah Education Network - The Utah Education Network provides training and resources to educators across the State of Utah. Their trainings are free and are offered at a wide variety of times.

Staff Retention and Appreciation - This document provides a simple way to show appreciation for the work that your staff does. Take a moment to read it and come up with your own unique style.

AUA Regional Recharge -

It's that time of year again when all our staff get burned out and we need a little pick me up!! Come to Regional Re-charge for the boost of enthusiasm and training you and your staff need!! This year AUA will be doing two half day trainings one in Brigham City and one in St. George.
