Take control of your professional development with this simple guide.  Reflect, gain self-awareness, seek outside input, and develop an action plan for both the short-term and long-term development of your professional career.

Agreeing on the core competencies staff need to effectively do their jobs is a valuable step in making decisions regarding the design and selection of professional development activities. There are a number of organizations in the field of afterschool that have been working to identify these core competencies. While there is not one definitive competencies framework, reviewers will note a striking similarity between them. This document draws from that work and does not seek to supersede or replace those ideas. This document is a guide designed to be used in conjunction with other existing resources to help program staff and supervisors improve their practice and program quality.

The NAA Core Knowledge and Competencies have been developed to enable afterschool and youth development practitioners to demonstrate expertise and gain a higher level of recognition within their communities – particularly from school officials – that has long been sought after.

The Supervisor Guides are meeting plans that supervisors can use to enhance and advance the learning of their staff based on the YDI courses. Download these Guides, in PDF format, and you will find a collection of meeting plans that YOU can use in your organization. These meeting plans give you and your staff the opportunity to discuss and apply the lessons learned from the YDI courses. The meeting plans take about 45-60 minutes, on average, but they can also be adapted for any time frame to fit your professional development needs!
